Keeping with its unofficial “Go Big or Go Home” motto, Ford is making a massive investment in the next-generation Focus. The compact car will be produced in Germany and the facility is getting some major upgrades in order to optimize production and handle the new model. Additionally, the factory will also go green with new energy-supply systems.
What’s next for the Focus?
Ford is doubling down on its European market with a major investment in a production facility. The German facility will build the next-generation Ford Focus, a compact car that continues to sell well, thanks to its affordability and quality.
In an effort to prove that Germany truly is a major part of Ford, the automaker invested a massive $644 million in the production facility. The plant will receive new press systems that can process steel into car parts; the new presses will result in a lightweight design that offers increased fuel economy.
The major investment will also add new energy-supply systems that will reduce the facility’s emissions by up to 20%. Worth noting is that Ford’s German production facility currently employs around 25,000 people, so these new advancements are exciting for many.
“This €600 million investment reconfirms Ford’s continuing commitment to Germany, our main centre of operations in Europe,” said Jim Farley, president and CEO, Ford of Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

The EcoSport Adjustable Cargo Shelf uses a honeycomb design to create a thin, lightweight shelf that can support nearly 700 pounds, despite weighing only six pounds itself. Additionally, the honeycomb inner structure is made using 100% recycled paper. This means eco-conscience drivers can still keep their impact small even while getting a great vehicle.
“The hexagonal design of honeycomb is a testament to nature’s ingenuity,” says Mike Mazzella, Ford EcoSport assistant chief engineer. “Not only is it strong, it’s superlight. Customers can slide the shelf into multiple different slots like an oven rack; even store it on the back of the seats. It helps make EcoSport super-flexible in everyday use.”

The shelf can be used in four positions:
- The lowest position provides maximum storage capacity.
- The middle position lets drivers hide away items they don’t want to be seen.
- The high position lines up the shelf with the fold-flat second-row seats.
- The shelf can be removed and stored vertically behind the second-row seats.

Ford’s idea of a midlife refresh blows every other automaker off the track with ease. The new Ford Mustang brings a long list of performance and styling changes that make it seem like a full redesign. Drivers can expect a streamlined interior, more aggressive exterior, and a changeup in what lies beneath the hood.
The 2018 Ford Mustang was officially revealed to the public at this year’s Chicago Auto Show. Styling changes include a refined front and rear, new grille, hood vents, and improved aerodynamics. Drivers can also add full LED lighting as well.
Unfortunately, 2018 brings the death of the entry-level V6 engine. Instead, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine rounds out the range. While Ford hasn’t released any performance figures just yet, drivers can expect a new 10-speed automatic transmission as an available option for the 2018 model year.
Like the exterior, the Mustang’s interior sees plenty of upgrades as well. Premium materials make up most of the cabin. Convenience and safety features are more available as well. Drivers can add features like Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist to their Mustang, decreasing the chance of an accident on the road.

At this year’s annual Performance Racing Industry show held in Indianapolis, Ford revealed the all-new Ford Shelby FP350S, a track-only, non-street-legal sports car that will be available to order at Ford dealerships soon.
The Shelby FP350S is designed for road racing sprint events like NASA and SCAA club racing and follows in the footsteps of other Ford Performance cars, including the recently unveiled Shelby GT350R-C and GT4, which debuted at the SEMA show earlier this year.
The Shelby FP350S will come with a 5.2-liter V8 engine with four valves per cylinder and a Tremec 3160 manual transmission for incredible power and handling. It will be built with a modified unibody chassis with seam welding and six-point roll cage, race oriented-exhaust, and race-oriented suspension. This is added to by a performance-oriented oil pan and oil cooler and a MOTEC data-acquisition system.
The global director of Ford Performance, David Pericak, said that the Shelby FP350S is the latest in Ford Performance’s efforts to “provide those who want to race with the equipment that enables them to compete and win.”
The FP350S’s performance splitter and carbon fiber adjustable rear wing, along with its racing seat and quick-release steering wheel, all contribute to the car’s exceptional ability to compete and win in races. We can’t wait to see the new Shelby being driven.
One of the most reliable ways to determine the safety of vehicle is to check it the safety rating it was assigned by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which has been scoring vehicles’ safety since 1978.
The NHTSA’s 5-Star Safety Ratings Program has been continually evolving since then, adapting to the latest safety technology. Today, the program evaluates both crash protection and rollover safety, making its scores remarkably thorough. In fact – the NHTSA is the only organization that rates rollover resistance as well as frontal and side crash protection.
The scoring is simple. There are five possible stars that a vehicle can earn, where only receiving one star is the worst possible score and five stars is equivalent to the best possible score. Any vehicle that gets a 5-Star Safety Rating from the NHTSA reflects the best that the industry has to offer, while 4-Star vehicles are also impressively safe.

When you buy a pickup truck, you typically have a choice between three cab styles: regular, extended, and crew. There are pros and cons of truck cabs of each type, and which one is right for you depends on your needs.
Regular cabs are two-door cabs with a single bench seat and room for two or three people at most. These have the advantage of being the cheapest kind of cab, but they’re also the least practical if you ever want to carry more than one person in your truck with you. Regular cabs aren’t really family trucks, but they make great commercial vehicles.
Crew cabs are the opposite of regular cabs—they have much larger cabins, with a spacious backseat similar to a car’s backseat and full-size doors. Crew cabs also typically have a smaller bed, though, so if you need something that has a lot of space for hauling and you still need backseat room, maybe opt for an extended cab.
The extended cab has a full-size bed with a small backseat and narrow doors. It’s best for drivers who won’t have passengers all the time and whose passengers are generally small children.
Ford now has the largest fleet of autonomous test vehicles in the industry, enabling it to better test the next generation of sensor technology. These fully autonomous vehicles mostly consist of modified Ford Fusion Hybrid Concepts, with a total of over 30 models in California, Arizona, and Michigan.
Ford autonomous vehicle technology is leading the industry, but still has a ways to go before it is perfected, according to Ford. Aside from strict regulations, one of the largest areas of focus is sensor technology. Using Velodyne’s newest LiDAR sensor systems, called Solid-State Hybrid Ultra PUCK, this new sensory system can distinguish what is around the car for up to 200 meters and make decisions based on random scenarios.
“Using the most advanced technology and expanding our test fleet are clear signs of our commitment to make autonomous vehicles available for millions of people,” said Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, Global Product Development, and chief technical officer. “With more autonomous vehicles on the road, we are accelerating the development of software algorithms that serve to make our vehicles even smarter.”
Ford has been seriously investing in autonomous vehicle technologies for over a decade, introducing the second-generation of autonomous Fusion hybrid concepts in 2013. Now it is only a matter of time before Ford cars can drive themselves.

To be fair, the now sold out Ford Mustang hasn’t made its way to Australia for 50 years, so the locals were understandably excited. But any Aussies who were late to the news quickly found themselves out of luck.
In fact, the Australian models are sold out for all of 2016, as dealerships received about 4,000 pre-orders, with 80 percent of deposits already paid. Of course, this is excellent news for the Ford Motor Company, who plans to ship more Mustangs to Australia in the near future.

Big things are happening in NASCAR, and Ford has a wheel in most of it.
In late October, Ford racer Joey Logano won his 3rd straight victory in the contender round Chase sweep. This is his 5thoverall Chase win, the 31st NASCAR Chase victory for Ford and Ford’s 639th overall NSCS take.
With that last win, Logano became the first driver to sweep all 3 races in a Chase round, and the first Ford driver to claim his 3rd straight victory in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) races since the legendary Rusty Wallace in 1994.
Logano drove his No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford Fusion. In 2006, the Fusion became Ford’s flagship vehicle and has since won 70 NSCS races.
Long ago, Ford established itself as a force to be reckoned with in the world of racing, and nothing has changed since. We’re excited to see where the lethal combination of Logano’s talent and Team Penske’s expertise leads.

This year, Ford took home a trio of awards from the 2015 Texas Truck Rodeo. These included the F-Series being named Truck Line of Texas, the 2016 Ford Explorer as SUV of Texas, and the Pro Trailer Backup Assist available on the 2016 Ford F-150 as the Best Technology.
The Texas Truck Rodeo is hosted by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA). This year, nearly 70 TAWA journalists came together to put a wide range of trucks and SUVs to the test at Knibbe Ranch near San Antonio.
With the F-Series trucks earning the Truck Line of Texas award, it emphasizes the fact that these trucks are not only the best-selling trucks in Texas, but have been the top-selling truck across the country for 38 years in a row. And, the current F-Series lineup is the toughest, smartest, and most capable truck lineup every produced by Ford.
Possibly even more impressive is the SUV of Texas award snagged by the 2016 Explorer. This is a great achievement, since the Explorer knocked out a competitor that had previously won this award five years in a row. The Explorer stands out with its fantastic technology, powerful and engaging 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, and much more.
And, with Pro Trailer Backup Assist, even novice truck drivers will be able back up a trailer simply by turning a knob—it couldn’t be easier than that. This technology will be available on the upcoming 2016 Ford F-150.
